Happy first week of March! This is the last full week until Daylight Savings on March 12th and we spring forward an hour.
This is what is happening in class this week:
US History- This week we are wrapping up our discussions on The Great Depression by looking at how President Hoover responds to the depression. We are also starting the film "Of Mice and Men" based on the novel.
Geography- This week we are continuing to learn about the Geography of the United States and Canada. Students will start their SPRITE activity. SPRITE method stands for Social, Political, Religious, Intellectual, and Technological. This method is a useful tool to help organize information when evaluating primary or secondary sources. Students will be using various sources such as atlas', World books, and Encylopedias to wrap up our unit on the Geography of the United States and Canada.
Current Events- As always, we will listen to the NPR hourly update and CNN 10 (Student News). This week we will start a new discussion unit over the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill of 2010. Students will start by reading an article about the spill and then have a class discussion and watch some news clips from when it was happening. This will then lead us into the film "Deepwater Horizon".
